Three local Decatur businesses have teamed up to keep it local and green! Worthmore Jewelers, The Brick Store Pub, and long time Decatur resident Kathleen Plate of Smart Glass, put their creative minds together and came up with an unique line of recycled jewelry made from Brick Store Pub beer bottles. The earrings, rings, cuff links, and necklaces are for sale exclusively at Worthmore Jewelers on the Square in Decatur, two doors down from The Brick Store Pub. The Brick Store puts certain empty bottles aside for Smart Glass to pick up. Once the bottles are in the Smart Glass Studio, they are put through a number of steps that Kathleen has perfected over the years. She specially hardens the glass and then slices the bottles into circles. She then adds sterling silver or gold to the glass circles to finish each one into a unique piece of jewelry.
Smart Glass owner, Kathleen Plate has developed a huge following for her recycled glass jewelry. Kathleen’s work can be found all over the US, including a special commission piece she is currently working on for Coca Cola that will soon be on display at the Georgia Aquarium. The Brick Store really needs no introduction, but for those of you who may not be familiar with them, they are known for their world renown beer selection. Harris Botnick, the owner of Worthmore Jewelers best describes The Brick Store by saying, “If their doors are unlocked, The Brick Store is packed!”
Worthmore Jewelers has had a huge response to the entire line of Smart Glass Jewelry. Customers consistently comment they have to get at least one piece of the Brick Store Collection since they know they helped contribute to the empty bottles. Every item in the line makes a great holiday gift or stocking stuffer for yourself or anyone on your list. The collection ranges in price from $29.00 to $209.00, and gift wrap is always free at Worthmore Jewelers.
