New Orleans Hosts "Greenest" Game In Super Bowl History

 

The New Orleans Super Bowl Host Environmental Committee implemented a variety of environmental initiatives to green the game, the fans and New Orleans. It was the "greenest" game in Super Bowl history. The New Orleans Host Committee's (NOHC) Environmental Committee worked tirelessly for more than two years to implement a variety of environmental initiatives designed to "green" the game, the fans and the community of New Orleans.

Federal Judge Approves BP Plea Agreement

 

Under a plea agreement accepted by a federal court, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) will oversee the distribution of nearly $2.4 billion in settlement funds BP has agreed to pay to benefit natural resources on the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

St. Landry Parish Landfill Project Recognized for Transforming Waste into a Green Community Asset

 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized St. Landry Parish Landfill for generating renewable energy from a local source while protecting the climate, providing energy savings and strengthening the economy.

Located in Washington, La., the St. Landry Parish Landfill is now home to a compressed natural gas project developed by the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste District. This project helps fuel several sheriff’s department vehicles and turns 50 cubic feet per minute of landfill gas into 250 gallons of gasoline equivalent, resulting in significant benefits in local air quality. The Parish uses the project to educate local residents and students about the environment.

Seismic activity is increasing in the area of the sinkhole.  Assumption Parish Office released this update: There has been increased seismic activity near the cavern this morning as well as developments of cracks on Oxy 3 pad. At approximately 10:00 this morning, another burp occurred in the sinkhole. The State Police helicopter has arrived to provide aerial viewing. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
